- mdgm-ntgrNETGEAR Employee RetiredDid you turn Plex on under Apps? Note that the first time Plex is started it needs to download some binaries that aren't included in the firmware.
- s4mb4AspirantDoh!!!!!
Thanks so much. I feel stupid and relieved at the same time. - Darth_VaderNETGEAR Employee Retired

First time turning ON Plex service will take longer because we need to install the package. We apologize that there is no feedback to user whether it is ready to use or not (This will be fixed in the next 6.0.5 release). Please give it a few more minutes and try again.
Thanks - s4mb4AspirantThanks....coming from the readynas pro business, I got a little freaked out.
My old readynas pro business has performed very well, I am hoping for better.... - OvrQualifiedAspirantI have no way to enable Plex on my 516. It doesn't show up in the Apps list. How can I enable it if it's not showing up?
- OvrQualifiedAspirantOK, so I updating to 6.0.4 and Plex now shows up, but I get an error message right away that it couldn't be installed. I've opened a case (21090744), let's see if Netgear can fix it :-/ So far, I am very much liking this unit, but am a little bummed by the rough edges like Plex not showing up, then failing to install, and the fact that I had to factory default the unit upon receiving it to get it to boot...
- jtclarkAspirantAnyone have an idea on when 6.0.5 will appear and also how we might keep up with Plex updates?
- OvrQualifiedAspirantNetgear support had me do an OS Reinstall to no effect, then they tell me that the Genie+ Marketplace is down and that Plex is downloaded from there...OK, makes sense, but why can't we install add-ons via .bin files like on the older devices?
- mdgm-ntgrNETGEAR Employee RetiredPlex is a pre-installed add-on included in the firmware. It does not rely on the Genie Marketplace being enabled. When you first turn on the Plex service it downloads the binaries for the Plex service (they are not included in the firmware itself presumably in order to keep the size of the firmware image down to as small a size as possible).
Did you try removing the Plex add-on before doing the OS Re-install? If not, try this. If it doesn't show up and can't be removed, perhaps ask support if they can remotely login to your unit to make sure all traces of the add-on are removed. You could then try another OS Re-install.
6.0.5 is due for release soon. - OvrQualifiedAspirant
Hi, when I did the OS re-install, the Plex app was not working or enabled. There's no way to remove it from the control panel that the user is given...it appears that it is in fact just a stub. I've updated the case again, according to the systemd-journal.log, apt is puking over unmet dependencies:mdgm wrote: Plex is a pre-installed add-on included in the firmware.
