New to Netgear rn31400

Hi All

i am new to this, i have been reading the manual and googling -- but i am stumped .. on a few things.

i have ReadyNAS RN31400 - and using windows 10

sorry for the life of me i every time i add a screenshot (picture) it shows up and then i Post - the pictures have a explanation mark!! sorry i cannot add pics to show , but i hope you get what i mean below

1. when i open file explorer - my pc - under networking i see ReadyNas folder -

.when i go into this  ReadyNas 314 folder there are more folders,  i can browse the folder but cannot copy any files to them. - how do i delete these?

2. when i go to the admin page for my ReadyNas - i do not see the above folders - which is bizarre..

also

3. when creating a user it creates a home folder - how do i create a user without the system creating a home folder?

4. is there anyway to delete the Home Folder and PicVids folder (when i created a user it created the folder?

appreciate any help with this.

Correct, the default password won't work, though you can use admin credentials after you change the password (which you really should do).

when i created the user however i did add it to the admin group, and then i was able to connect to the mapped drive of my new share. (not the one the system created when creating the user)

Same story.  Don't use a user in the admin group, and you won't see home or data.

Embedded pictures have to be manually reviewed and approved before they are shown.  So you need to wait a bit after you post them before you can see them.

You can't delete the home folder.  But you can go into the NAS admin web ui, and disable SMB (and other sharing protocols).  Then it won't show up.

Is PicVids a home folder for a user account?  Or is this a share that you created?

It sounds like you have DLNA enabled, and you are clicking on the NAS media server icon.

What happens when you enter \\nas-ip-address or \\nas-name in the file explorer address bar?  Use the real NAS ip address or hostname of course.  Be careful to use the correct slash (\ and not /)

      Hi

Sorry for the late reply, been busy sorting all sorts and also reading up on the nas manual lol

      1. the home folder i disabled all sharing .. but i can still access it from my computer!! what im i doing wrong?

as you can see the home folder is not shared

      i have turned of sharing.

      2. the PicsVids folder is created when the user is created, i had to create a user so i can access my share i created speratly and gave this user permisisons to it. but i have no use for the automatically created folder. plus i can access it from my computer -- how is this possible even if its not shared ...

3.. from my computer i can access the data folder and home folder and can successfully map it, which shoudk not be possible right?

      4. Oh ok so that is the ReadyNas media server DLNA - is this worth setting up and how? at the moemnt i cannot save anyting to it. I actually created a shared folder anyway, which i can access from my computer, whcih is fine.

      your question:

What happens when you enter \\nas-ip-address or \\nas-name in the file explorer address bar?

i see the Data and Home folder - as these are not shared how is this possible?

      Appeciate any help with this

      Thanks

You are accessing the NAS using it's admin credentials.  That is why you see both home and data.  If you create a user account, and use it's credentials instead, then you won't see either folder.  Since home has sharing turned off, you won't see the user's home folder either.
