"Newly added disk has failed SMART test" but passes WD SMart tests

Replacement harddrive fails on insertion. Also, on system reboot. But, this WDC drive works and passes SMART tests with WD Lifeguard when connected to a Windows host.

Any ideas?

Below is disk_smart.log output for the offending disk in the ReadyNAS:

Your SMART stats are showing a lot of pending sectors.

I suggest testing with lifeguard again - running both the full non-destructive test and the full erase (write zeros) test.

OK. Will run the Lifeguard tests and advise.

      Thx.

I ran a full erase, then a quick test.  The drive then failed the quick test.  So, indeed the drive is bad.

I used another replacement drive and rebuilt the RAID set.  Works fine now.

      Thanks for your help.
