"Newly added disk has failed SMART test" but disk status is OK

Hi,

I try to add a 5th disk (on the HCL) to my ReadyNAS Ultra 6, but I receive a "Newly added disk has failed SMART test" error message and the new disk is not added to the volume (no volume expansion).
However, the SMART+ disk status in "Component Status" is OK.

I connected the disk to a PC and had a SMART check also OK (on CrystalDiskInfo log below).

What should I do so tha t this disk can be added and the volume expanded ?

Thanks for your help.

Best Regards

  • Hey, I got it working with the 3rd solution you provided, but I was trying the second solution, in order not to lose the router capabilities:

    2. If you can't bridge the modem, disable ALL wifi radios on the modem, configure the modems DMZ for the IP address the Orbi router gets from the modem. Then you can use the Orbi router in Router mode.

I've done this, but my steam link still doesn't find my desktop.

I've attached a sceenshop of the DMZ config.

You could try rebooting w/o the disk in place and then hot insert it.

If it fails again, then test the disk with Western Digital's Lifeguard in a windows PC (running the built-in smart test).

This is a used disk, correct?  Power-on hours suggests it's at least 3 months old.

      Thanks for your help, StephenB.

Unfortunately, hot inserting the disk did not change anything and the disk is still rejected as failing SMART test.

Western Digital's Lifeguard in a windows PC says the disk is OK (PASS) - as did CrystalDiskInfo and even ReadyNAS in component status (!).

And the disk is pretty new. I bought it to expand my volume, but I had reached the max space expansion (on a 4 OS). So I had to reset my NAS to factory default - and thus had to backup all my data before. It took quite a long time - and the disk was in the NAS during all this backup processing. That's why power-on shows it's been on for 3 months - but it has not really been used at all ...

You have two empty slots, correct?  Did you try it inserting it in both?
