No available apps listed?

So, I had a problem occur when I uninstalled a community app (note: do NOT install HippPlay!) and it totally hosed my NAS, removed app my apps, removed all my data files, and messed with my config.

I was able to restore my data (luckily) and restored my setting from a recent backup (yay me!).

However, when I go to the frontend I am not seeing an apps available to install...

Any ideas at this point? I am running 6.1.6

  • Hmmm... Not getting any suiggestions... Let me try.

    Hey, Scott!

    What?!?

Did you try reinstalling the OS?

Why, I have not, that sounds like an excellent idea! But I have never done that before, what does it do exactly, what might I "loose"?

Well Scott, you must be a very handsome man, from what I read it looks like some config stuff will get reset. Maybe someone with some more experience can share what an OS re-installation does and is that a logical next step?

I sure hope so because I may not be handsome, but I sure do smell good!

    (any advice would be appreciated!)

An OS reinstall will reinstall the OS, but will preserve almost all settings. The IP configuration is reset to DHCP, and the admin password is reset to "password". Everything else should be preserved.

It is worth trying, though if you've added more data, I'd update the backup first.

If it doesn't work, try Netgear support.

Of course as a last resort you could also do a full factory reset and rebuild the NAS from scratch.

    Yes.

You could also try over-installing 6.1.6 from the web ui, that will not change any settings.
  • That was a good idea. Somewhat improved. I get lots of "system busy or not responding" from the front end now, but it did show me a list of available apps (though no icons).

maybe next thing to try is the OS-reinstall?

It seems to me that it is busy doing something. Perhaps wait a day and see if the system busy/not responding stops.
  • Yea, I thought that. But when I look at what's running on it, not much... the "load" is around 0.5 on average over time.
  • Crap. Reinstalled os, not I get "cannot connect discovery server" on the display...

Just not getting an IP address, just need to jiggle it a little and should be OK.
