NV+ ERR BAD FIRMWARE

So I have an NV+ (RND4425v1) that is reporting ERR BAD FIRMWARE.  This occurred after my home lost power.  I'm not sure why it didn't shutdown on its own as I have it monitoring my UPS.  The good news is I have a second RND104 that I backup to weekly.  The problem is the backup occurs Sunday nights and I recently added some critical files to it this week that didn't get backed up.

After the power outage it was able to boot if I used the skip check boot method.  But the first time I'd try to copy a file off it, it would hang up the system and I'd be forced to reboot.  Now I can't even get that far.  Just bad firmware message.

I've tried doing the OS Reinstall but although it appears succesful, upon reboot I still get the same firmware error.  I've ran a memory test that passes just fine.  I've tested each disk in my PC indiviually and they pass with no error.  I've tried booting removing 1 disk each time thinking a disk was still causing the issue.   I even put the 4 disks into another NV+ chassis but get the same error.  I'm desperately trying not to do a factory reset.  The other chassis was acting wonky when I replaced it so I'm not convinced that was a fair test.

Is it possible to put the 4 disks into my RND104 running OS6?  Or are they not compatible?

Open for any suggestions.

Thanks!

  • Forgot to mention... I am getting a flashing LED code.  4 flash, 2 flash.  According to the LED Language Manual it means....

Corrupted, do not mix used disks and cold boot up. In most cases, problem may be solved by OS reinstall with
optional NAND recovery. Contact tech support before taking actions.

How do you do this optional NAND recovery?

I suggest you try booting in read-only mode using each possible set of three drives and see if you get better results.

I think what they call "NAND recovery" in the ancient documentation is what we now call USB recovery.

Thanks sandshark... how exactly do you boot in "read only" mode?
