NV+ RNV2-S2-0000 will not boot after PSU failure

Last week my PSU failed on my NV+ (w/4 - 500GB Seagate drives) was I discovered it in a powered down state and there was no indication of power being applied when pressing the power button.

I called NetGear tech support and received a replacement PSU. After installing the new PSU, I powered the unit on, but received a boot error, indicated by 2 solid green lights on Disks 1 & 3. The system is then unresponsive and can only be powered down by unplugging the power cord.

After researching the error, I find the ReadyNAS LED PDF which indicates that I need to do an OS Image recovery "Boot loader fails to locate valid RAIDiator image, TFTP or USB OS image recovery required".

I found the ReadyNas.com instructions, which tells me to load my usb drive with the RAIDiator 4.1.12 to do the repair. There is an unofficial page with further instructions on how to complete the task... but, it states - Warning: do not use these instructions unless you have been instructed by Netgear Support. Using these instructions without their direction can create further problems.

Note: This unit was one of the units with the known PSU issue, and years ago, I performed the ReadyNAS procedure to change the fan speed... to prolong the life of the PSU.

My Question... Based on my scenario, What is the correct action to take in order recover my NAS (while maintaining the integrity of the data on the disks).

First thing I would do is re-connect with Netgear tech support.
  • I did call Netgear tech support and they tried to assist me by walking me through some OS restore procedures... The NAS was not responding to the procedures... I had read somewhere in the forums, that the 2 green lights could also indicate bad memory, so I threw caution into the wind purchased some replacement memory and low & behold, it booted up, did it's FS check and has been running ever since.
