NV+ slow read speeds

Hello,

I have a ReadyNAS NV+ running sparc 4.1.13.
It's connected with cat 6 cables to an ASUS AC66U gigabit router.
My NIC is also gigabit compatible.

I have quite slow read speeds for drag and drop.
I get about 9-10mb/s read and 20mb/s write.

I tried connecting directly to the NAS and I get the same performance.

- Full data journaling disabled
- Journaling disabled
- Fast CIFS writes
- Jumbo Frames off

4 Hard drives

1: WDC WD20EARS-60MVWB0 [1862 GB]
2: WDC WD20EARS-60MVWB0 [1862 GB]
3: WDC WD20EARS-60MVWB0 [1862 GB]
4: WDC WD20EARS-00J99B0 [1862 GB]

Any one has any ideas?

Thanks

  • I just tried connecting the NAS to the PC direct via a different cable and got the same results.
Also, I have already tried a different cable to the router prior to that.

Your speeds sound reasonable for the NV+ though I would have expected higher read speeds than write speeds. Your NAS unit is basically a model that was released back in February 2006. It was discontinued back in late 2011.

What version of Windows are you running?

All our current ReadyNAS models are much faster than the NV+.

My speeds are not reasonable since the performance guide indicates I should be reading at 33mb/s, not 10.

    I'm running Windows 7 Ultimate 64bit.

Not really. 33 MB/s is for the "optimal" configuration. Your settings are closer to the default, which is mid 20's.

[quote="fbmachines"]The difference could be because of the green drives you are using. Green drives are lower performance drives./quote]I also use the same drives, and I am getting around 17-18 MB/s read speeds with my stock NV+. And that system doesn't have 4K alignment.

So I think the slow read speeds are still unexplained, but I am thinking 18-20 MB/s is the ceiling.
