Traditionally hard drives have used MBR partitions, however once you get to larger drive capacities than 2TB, GPT (GUID Partition Table) partitioning is needed. Sparc ReadyNAS can't handle this different kind of partitioning and so will see 3TB disks as <1TB in size.

RAIDiator 4.2.16 or later for x86, and all RAIDiators for ARM (beginning with the very first release 5.3.1) have GPT support.

Hi mdgm -- in searching for solutions to my unfortunate problem of having purchased a Duo v1 (I thought I was getting a v2!) and 2 x 2.5TB HDs, I'm trying to make them work even losing the 500GB on each drive. If the only problem is indeed the fact that they require GPT, do you see any other reason why it wouldn't work if I create an MBR partition of 2TB on each drive (http://www.rodsbooks.com/gdisk/mbr2gpt.html)?

    Thanks!

I believe it still won't work. I would suggest you return the Duo v1 if possible.

Again, yes, but which Debian 3.1? There is at least r1 to r8. Nut sure if they all went public, but i think they did.
    B!

It looks like Debian Sarge 3.1r8. Keep in mind that the ReadyNAS team does modify some of the packages, but it's likely that many/most are based on 3.1r8.

I no longer have an NV+ to check, but I believe the repositories for APT on the NV+ are listed as:

    deb http://archive.debian.org/debian sarge main
    deb-src http://archive.debian.org/debian sarge main

    Check /etc/apt/sources.list to verify.

Following the link to http://archive.debian.org/debian and following through to the sparc-based repo (http://archive.debian.org/debian/dists/ ... rc/Release) I get the following:

    Archive: oldstable
    Version: 3.1r8
    Component: main
    Origin: Debian
    Label: Debian
    Architecture: sparc

Checking the parent folders for all architectures:

    Origin: Debian
    Label: Debian
    Suite: oldstable
    Version: 3.1r8
    Codename: sarge
    Date: Sat, 12 Apr 2008 19:04:58 UTC
Architectures: alpha arm hppa i386 ia64 m68k mips mipsel powerpc s390 sparc
    Components: main contrib non-free
    Description: Debian 3.1r8 Released 12th April 2008
