Do note that the upgrade requires a factory reset so backup your data first.

Also note that this is not supported by NETGEAR so if you run into issues you will need to make use of the forums or some other 3rd party service for help.

I had OS6 on an Ultra2 without issues.

I just switched from a RN102 with 6.2.1 (single drive) to a Pro 2 with 6.2.1 (using the same drive) and all is well. I just did a OS re-install. I have a backup so I wasn't worried if things went wrong...

So, is this just the regular OS6 than also runs on my 316?

Yes. After upgrading to OS6 you would use the same images as you use to upgrade your 316 for future updates.

Yes

The special image presents OS6 as if it were a 4.2.x image so 4.2.x will accept it.
