OS re-install ... simple and easy !

I'm trying to do a "OS re-install" on my "ReadyNAS DUO v1" and I have found the "How do I access the boot menu on my ReadyNAS Duo / NV / NV+ / X6/600?"

As I read the paper a "OS re-install" (NOT affecting the data on the disc !) is done thie way:

1) the system has power ON and running normally
2) the reset switch is pressed for 5 sec and the released

the text says something about a LED that will flash 1 time - what LED - I have a LED in the power button, an ACT and one for each drive 1 and 2 ?

Can somebody please teach me in this - doing a OS re-instal ?

  • When I try the method:

    <IP-address>/password_recovery

    I get this message back:

Sorry, password recovery information has not been set on this device. Due to security reasons, password recovery is not available.

So I think I HAS TO do a "OS re-install" - so please tell me ... simple and easy ... bullet by bullet

You find the instructions in the Hardware Manual don't clarify it for you?

    1. Press and hold reset button
    2. Power on ReadyNAS
    3. Keep on holding reset button
    4. After about 5 seconds the disk LEDs will blink
    5. Release the reset button at this point

Monitor the NAS in RAIDar to see what it is doing. If you somehow held the reset button in for 30 seconds (factory reset) you would see it come up with instructions to Click Setup and when you did you would be prompted to choose the RAID mode. In which case you could not do this and power down to abort your mistake. There is a 10 minute countdown after which time if you haven't chosen a RAID mode or powered down the factory reset would proceed with X-RAID / Flex-RAID (whichever you chose last time) chosen for you.

This is a 10 year old discussion thread - please open a fresh one, and provide details on what NAS model you have, and any more info on that went wrong.

  • OK, I managed to do a OS reinstall and my data is there and I can access as I normally do - thx !
