A conversion might be possible but it is not without its risks. It's likely that NetGear has not tested such a conversion. Also simply doing an OS Re-install would likely not be enough as the OS is so different. You would likely need to wipe the OS partition before installing the new OS onto it. It would be more trouble than what it's worth for a user to attempt such a conversion.
