Correct me if i'm wrong but I don't believe NetGear has released an official method to update legacy systems to OS6 and doesn't officially support running it on them. All the images available to update to OS6 have been released by the community and OS6 doesn't support the legacy hardware as well as it supports the new hardware.
One can't expect NetGear support to provide help if users with legacy systems running ReadyNAS OS 6 encounter issues. Sometimes NetGear reps and often others in the community may provide help here on the forum but that's not the same as being able to ring support and email them (if a user running OS6 on a legacy system needs data recovery services, has a full OS partition, has a corrupt copy of the firmware on the internal flash or another issue that may require advanced support would NetGear provide it?). Better to warn users that they may be on their own if they encounter issues only for them to find they are not, rather than to create the impression that they will definitely be able to get help only for them to find they cannot.
I have posted an image to help users downgrade their legacy systems back to 4.2.x (also requires a factory default) if they wish.
