OS6 now works on x86 Legacy WARNING: NO NTGR SUPPORT!
Update: It is now unofficially possible using NTGR images to update legacy hardware to os6.X
See Post #3, for directions to install 6.2.1 on x86 Ultra and Pro Models. (ARM NOT SUPPORTED by this OS)
Be forewarned, this requires a SYSTEM WIPE and likely voids any warranty support from NTGR
Supported so far: pro 2/4/6, ultra 2/4/6, old pro / Pioneer Pro, 2100v2
Not Supported: NVX and 2100v1
Thanks go out to "HomeBrew Anonymous" for making this possible.
Update 2: A firmware image to downgrade back to 4.2.26 is now available. See this thread. While this downgrade should get you a working system again on the supported firmware, be forewarned this requires a SYSTEM WIPE and NetGear also does not provide support for this downgrade. If you have issues seek help on these forums.
Original Post/Gripes
I have been reading these forums since Monday's announcement and there has been a resounding "ooof" regarding the fact the Ultras and Pros are unsupported for future OS improvements.
To clear the air: it would appear Netgear will never support os6 on past hardware. I have almost come to grips with this, and at least they have been open and honest with their forward direction and aren't stringing us along. viewtopic.php?f=138&t=70131
The upside is our devices still work and are mostly stable and eventually we can upgrade to a new shell that has os6 support, but in the meantime our $500-1000 investment is unable to take advantage of modern features we all desire.
I don't think I can add a poll here at RN forums, but I would like to garner support for a 100% unsupported home brew of the os6 on Pro6 units.
If we get enough support perhaps a talented member(s) here would help release a homebrew of sorts.
The 3 main caveats are:
1. Netgear will never be held responsible/your warranty is void
2. A format is required (new FS and OS)
3. Data loss is highly possible
If you are still interested please post a reply to this thread.
mdgm and I have decided that its time to lock this thread. So please do post any new OS6 on Legacy issues on their own threads.

- PapagaiouAspirantHi Poussin,
Actually I could not access the Cups web admin before doing this command. That is why I am reporting it to you. But it could well be due to my system.
Anyway it works.
PS: is Antivirus Plus available for 6.1.6, I do not see it now.
Cheers - workbench82AspirantHi all,
Couple of questions: I have had both Ultra 2 and Pro 2 models. What if I update to OS6, will the differences between these models remain?
I mean all the corporate/business specialities integrated to Pro -models?
Also a question for Poussin: Have you already managed to check if vpnserver addon works on 4.2.x? (This is from subject "L2TP/IPSec VPN running on x86 ReadyNAS e.g. Ultra ?")
Thank you in advance for your help :)

On OS6 all features supported by the hardware are available. This also applies to legacy ReadyNAS running OS6. So business features are available for all models in OS6. - demetrisAspirantSeeing 6.1.6 progress i noticed netgear has taken R&D more seriously now.
Well done @ll people involved.
I just wish they got the grips and fix legacy hardware issues even now "unofficially" lol
We are using OS6 anyway ....... - PapagaiouAspirantwell said demetris.
OS6 releases are getting better even on legacy. They should support officially the legacy as it works well and owner of Atom based system won't upgrade soon to new systems as there are little gain in hardware spec with new NAS.
Keep up good work Netgear guys. - AMRivlinApprentice

And with 6.0.5 firmware readycloud work on legacy ULTRA 4
rgds
Also activating the Dropbox functionality in OS 6.05 did not work. The Dropbox webpage says "The request to link the app is invalid"
Under 6.1.5 mine still says this. Was there ever a fix for the Dropbox linking? - PapagaiouAspirantHello,
Today I notice that my NAS is not fully booted up. The blue light is blinking and it seems there are some disk activities. However, I cannot access the web interface. it keeps saying "device is offline please wait"
I forced several reboot, disconnected Usb drive but still the issue is there.
I am running 6.1.6 RC10 under old Ultra 2
Thanks for advice on next steps. - PapagaiouAspirantNow it is weird. The NAS is accessible by SSH. I do not see disk full issue. Still I cannot accesss via web interface. Also after some time the NAS shutdown by itself. I also noticed that recently hes has difficulties to wake up when the shutdown is programmed.
Shall I try an os reinstall via SSH. How to?
Edit: I did OS reinstall from the button. But this issue is still there. It lloks like Frontview cannot connect. However the rest of apache web works: Wordpress, CUPS...
How to debug?
Thank you - mdgm-ntgrNETGEAR Employee RetiredTake a look at the relevant log in /var/log
- PapagaiouAspirantThe error.log of Frontview gave me those:
First I got a warning that RSA server certificate does not match server name (but I had that for a long time without issue)
