Problems after I upgraded to Logitech Media Server 7.7.1

Hi

I ugraded to Logitech Media Server 7.7.1 today and it totally messed my Readynas 6 Ultra. I followed the instructions and first unistalled 7.7.0 then I run the clearsqeezebox and then installed 7.7.1. My problem is that Logitechs installer and created a user called "Logitech Media server" took ownership of my media folder (as by default is where I have all the files) and now there isn't there. I took back ownership and put he read/write right for the users back but i cant se the files its just folders for db and indexes and logfiles. If I go to the settings on the Logitech Media Sever administration site and use the browse function for my media files I can see that all the files and folders are there and a new one called "server". My conclusion is that Logitech media servers installed tried to make a "media server" folder to install in but something got wrong and used the old media folder instead and took total control over it. However how can I get the files back ? All tips i highly appreciated!

  • There is an issue between Logitech Media Server 7.7.1 and the latest released version of ReadyNAS RAIDiator. On reboot, the ReadyNAS has a startup script that modifies the contents of the SAMBA shares file (which is used to provide the CIFS/SMB shares accessed by Windows computers). With the latest version of Logitech Media Server, they created a directory/folder in the /c volume that also holds the shared folders. This seemed to confuse the startup script on the ReadyNAS, causing the shared folders to get all out of order.

The problem is being resolved on both ends. Version 7.7.2 of Logitech Media Server will change the name of the folder they use to be "hidden" (it will have a . as the first character, so it will be treated like a hidden folder by the ReadyNAS OS), and Netgear has a beta version of RAIDiator for x86 ReadyNAS devices that resolves the issue with their startup script.
  • Yes, RAIDiator Beta 4.2.20 fixes the startup script issue on the ReadyNAS end (as far as preventing it from happening again)... I would assume that it corrects the problem if it's broken too (so all your shares are set up right), but I've not installed it (nor have I rebooted my ReadyNAS since installing LMS 7.7.1), so I don't know for certain.
  • I followed this, it worked for me to:

It seems that I just found the solution to this issue. Hope it lasts.

    Here What I did:

    - Uploaded und updated my ReadyNAS Ultra 2 Plus with the beta Version of Raidiator 4.2.20 T19 to be found here: viewto...p?f=51&t=57193

    - Rebooted the NAS

    - Changed the share name of my Media share into Mediax (could have been any other name)

    - Rebooted once more (did not check if this is necessary)

    - Renamed the name Mediax back to Media

    - Rebooted once more (did not check if this is necessary)

    - and Bingo: everything is BACK !!
  • Thanks Cybermoose! I thought I had lost over 9TB of FLAC audio and ISO video files on my Pro Pioneer Edition. But then I was wondering why only the Logitech Media Server 7.7.1 was still able to find and do a scan of my flac files, even though it seemed like the music folder was missing under media. Frontview showed I was still at 65% of 13TB used. So the data still had to be there but was hidden somehow.

Updating LMS to 7.7.1 and then RAIDiator to 4.2.19 were the last things I remembered doing a couple days ago since I was able to see my mapped media folders in Windows 7. It wasn't until I renamed the "media" folder to something else in Frontview Shares/Share Listing, in my case to "medias", rebooted as per your instructions and then renamed "medias" back to "media" did I see all my folders again. Whew! Thanks a bunch! My hat's off to you! :D
  • Hi all does anyone know if this is going to get fixed? having to reboot the NAS everytime I want to access the media share via a PC is a little tiresome?

    cheers

    G.
  • The fixes are available in beta versions of RAIDiator (4.2.20) and Logitech Media Server (7.7.2).

The root issue is caused by one of Netgear's startup scripts, and other add-ons have also caused this issue, not just LMS. LMS ran into the issue in 7.7.1 because they changed the location of some of their cache and temporary files. In 7.7.2 they changed the location again, this time to a hidden folder (a . as the first character) in the same location as 7.7.1.

So if the only add-on you use is LMS, and you just want to have your Media share back, download and install the latest nightly build of LMS 7.7.2.

If you also use other add-ons that might run into this issue and don't want this problem to occur again, you may want to get RAIDiator 4.2.20 from the Beta forum here instead. You may want to read through some of the beta threads though, as there are some people reporting other issues that could significantly impact the performance of your ReadyNAS depending on the model you have and what features you're using.
