Problems resetting Duo2

I have a ReadyNas Duo2.  I have wiped the unit clean and wish to start with a clean unit.  I set a password for the unit, and logged the name with a secret code to prompt me to recall my password.  My Mac recorded the new password, which does not appear to work.   As result I have tried to do a factory resell and a  factory reboot also and that does not work.  What I would like is a clean unit that I can start again.  However the secret password and log in which I though my MacBook recorded does not work.. Neither on several reboots does the admin/password code.  Can someone please suggest what I can do to totally clean off the unit and start the system again with the admin/password startup code

Let's start with verifying the model.  Many owners of the original Duo mistakenly think they have a Duo v2.  That is Netgear's fault - the labeling is confusing.

    The original Duo

    • says ReadyNAS Duo on the front panel
    • runs 4.1.x firmware
    • often has labels that include v2 in other places of the chassis.

    The Duo v2

    • says ReadyNAS Duo v2 on the front panel
    • runs 5.x firmware

Please let us know what model you have.
