procedures on installing / apps

I'm deciding on whether or not to run OS6 on my RN Ultra 4. As I've understood it's not possible to use the OS 6 "App Store" in that case.

Are there guidelines on how to install apps without an app store, so (I assume) using apt-get? I am a regular user of ssh, but I've never really understood the consequences of apt-get install / update / upgrade. Recently killed my apache an samba on my Utlra OS 4 by fiddling with it. So since I have to do a factory restore anyway (OS reinstall didn't work permanently) I might go to OS 6 anyway.

Also read somewhere that Netgear version of Debian can't be seen as a regular debian. So I can't just Google on installation procedures, but some insight on the consequences is needed.

I'm currently running SabNZBd, but I'm also considering MySQL and OwnCloud. Like to keep my options open in general.

The Genie Marketplace is no more.

You can install apps from the Available Apps in the UI or apps found e.g. on the forums via the Upload button on the Apps tab on the Dashboard.
  • Ah ok, so there still is a GUI to installing apps :). Great, thanks!

    OS 6 it'll be :D.
