RAIDar can't access the ReadyNAS Ultra 2, does find it

I've installed our new ReadyNAS Ultra 2 ('RU2'), with it and 3 PCs plugged into a DLink switch.

On one W7 and one XP machine RAIDar found the RU2, and I was able to Browse and map the required share. All access to the nas works fine.

On the third (W7) PC RAIDar can find the find the RU2, but when I click Browse there is a long pause, and then a message dialog says
"Windows cannot access //192.168.0.50. Check the spelling...."

I've seen a few similar problems mentioned in the past, but I don't think I have the sorts of issues that others reported, such as username collisions or corrupt data.

Can anyone suggest a possible cause/solution? (I tried disabling the firewall, as this network has no Internet access, but that did not help.)

(The PC in question has been acting as a server for the data which is going on the RU2)

Thanks.

  • Its probably that Windows Box is using a different Type of Authentication then the other box.

Look at changing the LAN MANGER SETTINGS on that box to Lower setting:

Start->Run->secpol.msc->LOCAL SECURITY SETTINGS->Network Security LAN Manager Authentication Level TO SEND LM
    AND NTLM

That applied to old units READNAS used 56 bit encryption but not anymore now 128 bit is used.

Make sure your NAS is also on the newest firmware 4.2.22

    Thanks for your reply.

secpol.msc does not seem to be configured on this PC. Is there registry settings I could look at?

The ReadyNAS Ultra firmware is 4.2.19. I will get it back to my office for an upgrade (the site has no internet).

    Thanks again.

You can download the firmware onto your PC and do a local update. No need to move your NAS. See the instructions here: http://www.readynas.com/RAIDiator_x86_4_2_22_Notes

    Thanks for that, will do.
  • I have updated RAIDar, and still have the same problem.
This PC is the only one with an AMD processor, is that likely to be a factor?

There seems to be no other network access problems.

    Thanks.
  • As Windows 7 Home Premium does not come with secpol.msc set up, I set the registry entry...

    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Lsa\LmCompatibilityLevel

to zero, which I understand should give me "SEND LM AND NTLM".

However RAIDar still cannot Browse the shares on this PC. Despite my last post, the box with the problem is running a corei3 processor, and there is really nothing special about it.

    Any more suggestions please!?

    Thanks.

The errorcode given was 0x800704cf, and the problem was with a known bug in old (2010) versions of W7 with Device Drivers.
Basically the tunnelling IP6 -> IP4 driver (6TO4MP) was getting duplicated, until, in my case, there were 845 of them. This seems to mess things up!
(This clearly is only a problem with installations not connected to the internet and getting updates.)

See below if you have a similar problem.
