RAIDar cant see ReadyNas
Running Windows 10. Just got used RN204. Connected directly to computer. IPscan show it is on ip 192.168.1.1 Tried to log into with firefox 45.0.2, wont connect. RAIDar says no netgearnas found....
Did have it hooked to router. Router did see and assigned IP. RAIDar could not find it. Tried putting IP in firefox. Would not connect. Did have Buffalo NAS - broken- and had hooked straight to computer to config. Thought I would try same. 192.168.1.1 is NETGEAR nas. Have IPscanner, shows it as netgear. The lan have hooked to is 192.168.2.1 subnet 255/255/0/0 with no dhcp.
With unit powerd up the power button is blue, drive1 on (only 1 hd in unit at this time), lan light green, LCD panel at bottom all boxes, nothing displayed.
If I press power button once (not holding it) unit powers off.
when you directly connected it to your PC, did you set the PC to a 192.168.1.x address?

No. Not sure why I would do that. The lan is normally not used unless I need to connect something directly for configure or transfer. For internet access I am wireless. Initially ip was 192.168.1.1. When I plugged in ReadyNas windows complained of two devices with same hardcoded ip's. So i configured lan to be different then ran IPscanner. That when say netgear 192.168.1.1. Issue is, I dont think OS is running in the readynas. The LCD panel is all solid boxes. I know the LCD is working correctly as when first powered on do get standard greeting 'welcome to readynas' or something like that. Then goes to all lit up - aka boxes.
I noticed when first powered on goes through startup sequence where LCD is all 'boxes', then goes out and welcome message comes on then goes back to all lit up. Also, know LCD and electronics driving it are working properly. Am able to put in 'boot menu' mode, and the text is clear and fine. Just cant go any further.

You need to have a compatible IP address range on both the PC and the NAS if you want to reach it over ethernet or wireless.
When you directly connect the NAS to the PC, you similarly need to set up a temporary (and compatible) IP address for the PC ethernet. Otherwise the network software in the PC can't figure out how to reach the NAS. The settings I outlined will work - but you might also need to disable the wifi connection, since your subnet mask (255.255.0.0) will probably cause the PC to try and reach the NAS over wifi.
Normally dhcp is enabled in your router by default. Did you disable it for some reason? We'd have more options if dhcp was in use. In particular, we could connect the NAS to the router again, and do an OS reinstall or a factory default from the front panel.
Also, perhaps check the router configuration and see if there are any settings for multicast (or broadcast) messages on WiFi. If they are disabled, then RAIDar can't find the NAS unless you are connected with ethernet.
Ok will try change lan ip. Dhcp is enabled on router. It did give an IP. RAIDar still could not detect. That is why I hooked straight up to PC to try and connect. When I ran RAIDar I did disable the WiFi first. With the lan set at 192.168.2.1 with subnet mask 255.255.0.0 should have looked at ALL IPs in 192.168 range and should have seen 192.168.1.1, but will try. Still believe issue in OS on rn204 not talking. Think it odd that on the LCD it is lit up as boxes. The LCD seems to be like the old dot LED displays with boxes and LEDs are lit up to spell what is wanted. Those are the boxes I am referring to, with all the LEDs lit up, so no info can be displayed.
