RAIDar on Dual Boot (Vista and Ubuntu)
Hi,
I have set up RAIDar and my Ready NAS Ultra 2 on my Vista64 OS - all working.
I have also installed Ubuntu on a different physical drive in the same box and can choose OS in the BIOS.
I want to set up RAIDar on Ubuntu. Can I simply use the disk that came with it and installed to Windows?
If so, I had to update firmware to 1.4.7 as I use 3TB drives. This was not easy as I had no smaller drives to use and took multiple factory resets. I don't particularly want to do all that in Ubuntu. I have already got my data on the NAS and worry I might risk it by setting up RAIDar on Ubuntu. Will the RAIDar simply discover the NAS with the updated firmware and see all the data?
I can't do a backup until this is sorted as Windows will not recognise the drive that Ubuntu is on - which is where I will be doing backups of important data.
Any advice is very welcome. Thanks.

- JarnoGGuideRAIDar and your NAS firmware are two different things.
RAIDar is just the software used to discover your NAS and does not actually do anything with you NAS unless you're doing a factory reset. I've got RAIDar 4.3.2 from the cd with my Ultra 2, not sure if it's the newest version, but I doubt there have been a lot of updates in the past few months. There is a Linux version available on this website:

I don't know if it's on the cd as well. I don't have much experience with Linux, but I guess that you can just install the application and it will detect your Ultra 2.
The firmware/OS on your NAS is named RAIDiator and if you have an Ultra 2, it will probably have a version number in the range of 4.2.17. Once you have that set up and working on Windows it does not have to be changed anymore. - silvercueAspirantthanks - yes RAIDar working in ubuntu...though file sharing seems to be a problem in Ubuntu :(
