Re boot of NAS results in a DEAD NAS

I have exactly the same problem. Blue blinking light after the upgrade to 4.1.10. I even went out and bought a new 3rd party memory stick to see if that would fix the problem, no luck. I do not have the original so-dimm unfortunately.

Should I call netgear support?

  • A month into working with support, I still have this same problem. So far I have:
    • Factory Reset
    • Recopied firmware onto hard disks (4th light blinking thing)
    • Put a single fresh drive in place and had it work fine
    • used Seagate software on a separate computer to verify that the drives are not faulty

The only interesting thing I noticed is that Negativenancy has 4 of the same exact drives (ReadyNAS NV v1 , Four Seagate ST31500341AS 1.5TB drives, RAIDiator 4.1.10). I wonder if the 4.1.10 update where drives over 2T no longer works also impacted compatibility with some 1.5T drives?

Really it would be better to start a different thread.

AFAIK 4.1.10 did not break operation of 2 TB drives, and drives over 2 TB never worked on the NV, so I don't understand that comment.

I have seen several posts saying that 4.1.10 causes third party memory failures (even with memory that previously worked). Since you are using your original drives, it seems unlikely that you are having a drive issue.

At this point my advice is to put back the single fresh drive that worked, and then downgrade to 4.1.8. After that, do a second factory default with all drives in place, and restore your data from backup. Then stick with 4.1.8 firmware.
