Many thanks for the suggestions ... Resetting permissions to R/W for all entries in Frontview seems to have fixed the problem at first blush. I'll try more comprehensive test later.
FYI, I normally gain access to my shares via automated logon routine in my Mac. I send command from File menu attaching via an SMB:// ... command. I have AFP, CIFS, and NFS enabled on all shares with R/W access as default for all. Should I consider reducing number of file access options?
