ready nas 102: Volume data is degraded

Hi folks,

I was using my RN102 (OS 6.7.5) with one 3 TB disk in X-Raid mode for many years. Now I want to migrate it to Flex-Raid.

So I changed the volume from X-Raid to Flex Raid, by cliking the "X-Raid button". The "X-Raid button" changed from green to grey. The volume status window shows now the message "volume is degraded". But It looks as if this process does not come to an end. I was waiting now for five days. But no change.

Shall I switch back to X-Raid and try again, or wait for some more time?

Reinhard

You have to switch to flexraid, destroy the xraid volume, then create two new ones (one for each disk).  I recommend naming one of them data.

There's no way to avoid data loss.  Also, uninstall your apps first, as they are stored on the data volume.

    Hello igelzuechter,

Upon changing from XRaid to FlexRaid were you ask to select the raid level? Degraded volume means it is up/accessible but it is not redundant. Please refer to the information from this link

      Hello Community Team,

thanks a lot for your helpful feedback and answer. It helped a lot but unfotunately did not solve my issue completely.

This is what I wanted to do:

I was running my NAS in X-Raid Mode for several years with only one HD. Now I wanted to increase the storage capacity by adding a second HD with the same size.

      This is how I tried:

After adding the fresh HD and booting the NAS it started to duplicate the data to the second HD. Because X-Raid uses the second HD for redundancy purposes. So I shut down the NAs, unplugged the HD booted the NAs again.

My idae was to change to Flex-Raid, configure the NAS for JBOD, install the HD again so that it will use the second HD with it`s full capacity.

But it looks as if this does not work. I only can use the second HD either in Raid  one or in X-Raid. Both modes will use the second HD for redundancy. But the data that I store on the NAS is not that important. I can live with no redundancy.

In the meantime I switched back to X-Raid, installed the second HD. This is now used for redundancy.

Is there any way to migrate from two HD in X-raid mode to Flex Raid in JBOD to increase the capacity? Ideally without a backup and restore  of my data?

      Best Regards

      Reinhard
