Ready NAS 104: identify failing drive

Hi,

This morning I heard clicking noises (click of death?) coming from my Ready NAS 104. I shut down the device and when I turned it on there were no more clicks. Regardless, I want to change the drive that was making click noises.

I checked the logs but there are no error messages other than hard drive capacity warnings like

"Volume: Less than 20% of volume Disk-04's capacity is free... "

Upon checking the HDD status I got the following:

HDD one has ATA error: 103

All others have ATA error: 0

I wanted to confirm if HDD one should be replaced

I appreciate your help.

It is concerning, though one question is whether the count is growing or stable.

ATA isn't the only one that matters - you can see the others by downloading the log zip file, and look in disk-info.log.

I suggest running the disk test from the volume settings wheel.  That might restart the clicking.  After the test, download the logs again and take another look at disk-info.log and see what changed.

BTW, if a disk is clicking, it should be replaced no matter what the count is.

      Hi

Thank you. I downloaded the log and I found the info I needed:

      Health data
      ATA Error Count: 103
      Reallocated Sectors: 420
      Reallocation Events: 82
      Spin Retry Count: 0
      Current Pending Sector Count: 442
      Uncorrectable Sector Count: 351
      Temperature: 38
      Start/Stop Count: 9653
      Power-On Hours: 40523
      Power Cycle Count: 107
      Load Cycle Count: 827101

Hard drive one is failing. I will replace it once I get the 4TB WD Red plus I ordered today.

      Thank you again.

      Antonio
