Ready Nas duo v2 won't recognize external usb drives over 2

Have you tried the front USB 2 port?
RAID enclosures aren't necessarily the most likely enclosures to be compatible. There are also a variety of cases out there and NetGear can't test them all.
Also are you sure you have the Duo v2 (RND2000-200) with the new Dashboard web-interface not the earlier Duo v1 (RND2000-100) which has the older Frontview web-interface (http://www.readynas.com/simulators/frontview)?
It's not a beta product. 5.3.1 was the first production release for the v2 and was deemed suitable for release to manufacturing. Most things work fine with that release. No OS is going to be perfect. They are working on a 5.3.2 firmware release at the moment. There's no ETA on when that will be ready yet.
