ReadyDLNA not available!!

I have had nothing but problems setting up and using the RN104. It is a total piece of s*^*%&t!! I have had to boot to factory default 5 times since I bought it (last week). With 4- 2TB drives it takes forever!! It is completely un-intuitive!! I copied my files to it (which took the better part of a week) and decided I wanted to create a new folder on the NAS and move the data to that folder(which was already on the NAS). It took 27 hours to move 200 gigi of info (Same f%**% machine)! At one point it was moving at 128KB/sec!! I am completly disappointed in Netgear for producing such a POS! This is truly not the standard that I would expect from them. I have unsuccessfully tried to install Transmission from Genie 3 times. I used the .deb found in the forums and when I "toggled it on" it froze. I can not get it to even turn on!
The reason I bought this POS was because it advertised that it used Plex which I have found out now is not available for the RN104 even though the Plex site has a server download for ARM!! WTF Netgear! TALK ABOUT THE WHOLE BAIT AND SWITCH! These forums are loaded full of nothing but work arounds for these NAS POS products! I don't have the kind of time to research thousands of posts to fix every little freaking thing that I try to do on this machine!! Now not one of my dlna clients on my network can see the readyDLNA server even though I have successfully used readyDLNA from my routers. Ive tried everything to get it to work. Hell my dlna clients see my DirectTV boxes, LG TVs, Plex PC server, Blue Ray disks but "NOOOOO" they cant see the very machine that was made to be a media server!! How dumb is that! Ive even opened my network up to outside and removed all firewalls just in case that was causing the issue!!
If its not freezing.... its simply just not available for no reason! I am extremely worried about moving any important data to it because the one time I tried to rebuild the RAID5 (which I followed instructions to the detail) IT FREAKING FAILED! Hell even when using ready cloud ..sometimes it sees it ... sometimes it doesn't! How is anyone supposed to trust important data to such a flacky Piece of crap!! I am tired of spending hours trying to figure out how to start a f*^&%&$ app!!

Problem is I bought this POS in Chicago (3hrs away) at Frys when I was visiting. Can't just take it back!! I'm so frustrated!! NETGEAR get your SHIT together OR your going to lose a lot of faithful customers..LIKE ME!!

  • ATCDug,

I'm sorry you are not happy with your unit. I (to the contrary) love my unit. YES, there have been issues I've had to work through. YES, I've spent a lot of time on this forum looking for answers, AND opening Tech Support tickets, and finally YES the box is fairly slow when it comes to drive rebuilds and data transfers. But I have been able to work through all of my problems, and I have found the Tech Support team to be prompt, and reply with knowledgable , and more importantly ACCURATE information and advice.

A bit of history.... I bought this unit as a replacement for a Western Digital Live box I was trying to use. From my experiences, that was a POS. I sent and called their tech support, and was wholly disappointed. Fortunately, I bought my unit throught Amazon, so I was able to send it back and get a refund. I spent some more time trying to find a product that seemed to be a better fit for my needs, RAID-5, and came across the NetGear product line. It also appeared that they've been making these products for a while no, so I felt better about buying it, again through Amazon, just in case.

I will also say, that I have been proceeding VERY carefully through the process of installing, upgrading, and building up the RAID. I was gun-shy after my WD experience, and also felt that a step-by-step approach might make any trouble shooting easier, rather than and full blown install.

So having said all that, if you are still interested in trying to get your unit working for you, I'd be willing tell you how I built up mine, what I ran into, and how I "got around it". I can appreciate your frustration, I felt the same way about the WD box. These boxes when fully loaded are not cheap, and maybe, justifiably, that's partly why you're frustrated. I'd be too if the unit didn't appear to work properly, but I wouldn't trade mine for anything else.

  • ATCDug .. I feel your pain ... my 104 has been locking up since day one .. NTG sent me a new unit , which I was told I could simple swap my drive into and all my data would intact but was not the case .. it's now in maintenance mode waiting for level 3 support to have look (3 days later no response from NTG support )

    Should have brought a D????

    Andrew
  • Just want to be sure, what is a D?????

And I'm assuming since you're await Level 3 support, wow, are your drives on their approved list?
I have read some threads about using "non-approved" drives. I made sure mine were on the list.

Since you've got a new box, and are working with Level 3, I don't think I can be much help.
I hope it all works out for the best.
  • Well I think I'm working with Level 3 , but cant get any response from NTG to know if they have look at it or when they might ...

    Dr??o
