ReadyNAS 1000S - Firmware & 3TB HDD Support?
My client has a ReadyNAS 1000S that I would like to upgrade to 4x 3TB disks. It's currently running RAIDiator v3.01c1-p6 and I'm a bit concerned about upgrading the firmware to any newer version - the last time I did this (http://www.readynas.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=7&t=18350) something went badly wrong, and someone from the forum had to log in remotely to fix it.
So, my questions:
1. Can I safely upgrade to the latest firmware?
2. Will this system support 4x 3TB disks?
Thanks!

- SkywarpTutorSPARC units (your 1000S is one) will only go to 2TB per channel:

You should be able to upgrade (can't downgrade back though), but as with any upgrade, make sure you have a known good backup, just in case. - sanjinAspirantThat's a shame - looks like we'll just have to make due with 6TB then.
Thanks! - SkywarpTutorNo problem,
You could always get one of these, if you have some money to spare:

12x3TB ;-) - chirpaLuminaryNice to see some 1000S's still rocking out there.
Sparc does not have GPT support for the RAID drives, so no 3TB drives are going to work at full capacity. - sanjinAspirantI've spent the last few days replacing the original drives with new 2TB disks and rebuilding the array each time. The final rebuild was completed tonight, but now I'm stuck. Does the 1000S not support expanding the partitions once a new drive is in place? Does this mean that I'll have to back everything up, wipe out the existing partition, and then work on restoring my backups?

Update to 4.1.10 and do a factory default (wipes all data, settings, everything). You can do the factory default with all four disks in place to save time. - sanjinAspirantI'm running the latest firmware now - http://www.readynas.com/?p=6577 - upgraded a few days ago prior to the disk upgrades. Will I lose any data with the factory default? Also, about the configuration - is there a way to back up and restore the config once the reset is complete?
- mdgm-ntgrNETGEAR Employee RetiredTake a look at Why you might want to factory reset a Sparc ReadyNAS
Hopefully that explains all you need to know. - sanjinAspirantThanks, that does help. Looks like I'll be spending the weekend cleaning up old files and backing up the stuff I can't delete... :)
- sanjinAspirantOne more question before I proceed with the reset: The reset instructions indicate that I'll need to use software to "discover" the NAS after the factory reset. I'm assuming that this is because it will attempt to pull an IP address via DHCP. The environment we're working with, however, does not have any DHCP in place. What should I do?
