ReadyNAS 102 access from Mac slow

I have a ReadyNAS 102 that is connected to my Cisco gigabit network switch using CAT6 cable. I can access the shares rather quickly from any one of several PC machines on the same switch, but am finding that accessing it with my new iMac using OS Sierra is a nightmare. It will load the first couple of levels in the network file structure from my iMac with only a little hangtime, but when I try to access the folders that actually have my files in them it takes over an hour to load the file names in that folder. I have tried both SMB and AFP protocols to access and both seem to have the same delay. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

There are some changes we can make which can help with SMB. I've sent you a PM.

I'm having the same problem with our Netgear ReadyNas 314, using a mac with Sierra OS 10.12.4. Should I create a new post or can you PM me also?

      Thanks so much,

      Kristen

      Firmware 6.7.5

I've been fighting this issue and looking for a solution forever. I was almost ready to throw this thing out until I saw this post.  Can you help?  Transfer speeds are abysmal at best and it takes forever just to load file names in Finder, never had this problem with PC, just the iMac.

      Thanks!

One option is to try 6.8.0-RC1 (beta).  It does have some OSX optimizations.

I'm running the beta firmware myself, but don't have any OSX systems.

herald it looks like you ran into the recent ReadyCLOUD issue. Did you have any data in your ReadyCLOUD home folder share?

No. That was just me trying to figure out how to make the NAS work with my Mac. Thought maybe a different file would help.

  • I'm having the same problem scanning the 104 files from my Mac. What's the fix?

6.8.0 has a setting to optimize for OSX, so maybe try that first.

Then try the link above (which tells you how to disable SMB signing on the OSX system).

I am facing an issue vereby access from my Apple Mac computers to the ReadyNAS 102 is extremely slow. The issue seems to have gotten worse after a recent firmware upgrade from v. 6.2.5 to v. 6.8.1 - now it takes 10-15 minutes to list files in a folder on the NAS.

I read NetGear forums, and although this seems to be a known issue experienced by many users, I was not able to find a solution. This thread mentions that firmware 6.8.x makes it possible to optimize ReadyNAS for access from Apple Macs. Please advise how I can enable that.

        Many thanks.

  • i am having the same issues with most of the macs used at the company I work at. What is the fix to this issue? Will it have to be done on every computer?

I’ve tried everything and it’s still painfully slow. Think it is what it is unfortunately.
  • Hello,

We're having extremely slow access to our NAS via of MACs. We've been going back and forth with NetGear support in trying to resolve the issues and nothing has worked. I see that for some users that NetGear logged into their system and made some adjustments which solved their problems. Is there anyway I can find out what was done so that I can relay it to the support group that has been handling our issues. It seems we have not reached the right support unit with NetGear that appears to has more MAC knowledge.

    Thanks,

    John

  • guys can someone point me in the right direction, I'm having problems with transfer speed on my macbook pro. It takes ages to load and  sometimes crashes...I seen people talking about going into the SMB and then  modifying stuff in there. Can any moderator out there give us an hand with this issue...

    regards
