ReadyNAS 102: Backing up Mac Folder using ReadyCloud desktop client
OK, so I have been proceeding cautiously over Time Machine backups to my ReadyNAS 102. Works fine for a while but Time Machine has now twice decided after a few weeks or so that something's up and d...

There is a KB article: How do I back up data from Mac OS X to my ReadyNAS OS 6 system using the ReadyCLOUD client?
I believe as you add files to the folder it will automatically recognise this and transfer the changes across.
Would be nice if Apple fixed the bug with Time Machine that leads to it starting backups afresh.

Picking this up after a while - I have just checked again at some functionality and still see a problem. (Indeed, currently I do not have confidence that my ReadyNAS is going to provide me with a reliable back-up solution given the Time Machine problems and this: given that this is a kind of '101' purpose for a NAS, this is not good - I'm thinking 'why did I bother buying this?)
Anyway, I can still see 2 shortcomings with using the ReadyNAS desktop app as an OSX backup solution:
- Although backing up using the desktop app appears to correctly duplicate new files and sub foldes in the backup held on the ReadyNAS, it does not remove deleted or moved ones. So, for example, if I move a subfolder to another place within the overall structure being backed up, I end up with both the new version and the original version - so they get duplicated with the old version remaining as it is at the time of move. I hope that's clear. Putting it another way, the back up app does not replicate structural changes in the folder being backed up (i.e. sync).
- Next to the backup folder In the desk top app there is never a green tick and "All Files up to date" indication - as shown at step 8 in this knowledge base article. Instead, it just shows a greyed out sync icon and the words "Indexing ...(0%)". Doesn't help and doesn't feel right.

Is anyone able to provide some advice / thoughts about the 2 points I raise above as shortcomings? I have recently upgraded firmware and the desktop App but things remain the same.

Hi dagmarian,
Based on the description of the issue that you have provided, I may need to check this with others who can probably look at some improvement on how ReadyCLOUD desktop app backup works on MAC OS X device. We'll get back to you as soon as possible.
Thanks for your cooperation!
Kind regards,
