My client has a Readynas 102 2x3tb system It is backed up by 2 x WD 3TB disks which are rotated and plugged into the front of the Nas. It has always been a bit problematic in that the WD driv...

O.K. I think this discussion has run its course.
Now that this is fixed in 6.5.0 if you have any issues on that you should open a new thread.
I'm closing this thread.

Just to update the thread while I am still on my customer site.
The backup using the rear usb has been a complete disaster.
I started it at around 4pm yesterday. i monitored it all night and at midnight it was still going and the NAS was really slow in responding. This morning at 7:30am it had pretty much ground to a halt. It took an age to get into the backup jobs screen on the Readynas admin which eventually just showed no jobs!
I have rebooted the server and took the USB backup drive out for analysis in a PC. It only backed up about 100gb in over 15 hours before it gave up and pretty much ran the NAS to a halt.
As this is my final day here and as the backup via the NAS is clearly not fit for purpose anymore (it was never very good) I am going to have to come up with another solution which will involve backing up across the network to an external drive on a PC using third party backup software.
This is not ideal as it is prone to all sorts of problems.
It is clear to me that a product that never was that great at backing up is now rendered useless since the Upgrade to 6.4.2. It has taken literally days of my time trying to resolve this issue, most of which I cannot really bill anyone for but thats not the point. I will have to walk away from a customer site with a jury rigged solution in place for a piece of equipment I sold them.
To say I am unhappy is an understatement. Netgear I strongly suggest you find a resolution for this issue ASAP please.

I started an Rsync backup job last night for around 150GB of data using a USB3 HDD attached to one of the rear ports.
After 10 hours it has transferred around 55GB (only 1.5MB/s) and the web GUI is unresponsive. The transfer is still happening as far as I can see, just very very slowly.
The external disk is fine, no errors and has seen > 100 MB/s write speeds from a windows laptop.
Np question there is a firmware issue, Netgear apparently don't want to know about it.
