ReadyNAS 104 antivirus turning itself off
Hi all,
Weird one: the real-time scaning antivirus keeps turning itself off on my ReadyNAS 104 (running 6.9.3). I usually notice because the virus definitions stop been updated and I get a yell...

Unfortunately the RN100 series doesn't have as much memory as newer OS-6 ReadyNAS. Upgrading the NAS to an RN214 or RN424 would solve the issue, and would also let you do some real-time transcoding with plex. Though of course it would cost.
If you have quota turned on in the volume settings tab, you can try turning that off - it might help. You might also turn off other services on the NAS that you aren't using (no need for AFP if you don't have a Mac, etc).
But you might have to choose between Plex and ClamAV on the NAS. It is possible to use a PC to host Plex (but keep the media on the NAS), and you could also shift to an Antivirus program running on a PC that is configured to scan network shares.
Another thing you can look into is using ReadyDLNA instead of Plex. It doesn't have all the features that Plex has, but it uses less memory.

That's not an issue if you get another OS-6 ReadyNAS. You can easily migrate to either an RN210 series (ARM based) or one of the x86 models.

If by that you mean it's possible to transfer the disks in use in a ReadyNAS104 to another OS-6 ReadyNAS model without destroying the current array and loosing data (still having a back up of course), I might look into that at some point.

Yes, that is what I meant. You can directly migrate your disks to another OS-6 NAS withougt loss of data. If you migrate to an X86 NAS, I do suggest making sure the firmware installed on it matches what's installed on the RN104.

OK thanks, I didn't realize that.
