Readynas 104 Volume empty after Clean-up
Hello,
since some weeks my Raid-Configuration is degraded, because the primary disk (3TB) failed in my 4 bay configuration with 2x3TB and 2x4TB in total.
The HDD is physicaly damaged and can't be iserted succesfully again.
Anyway the Readynas worked quite fine.
Because I'm planning to build my own Homeserver, I didn't rebuild the RAID by adding a new disk in the first slot.
Unfortunately the Readynas killed my volume yesterday after i did a Clean-UP of the volume (not Destroy).
It shows me 0GB data, 0GB free, 0GB Snapshots and asks me to delete the volume after logging in, to use my remaining 3 disks.
I can't believe, that a clean-up did destroy all my data.
Does anyone have ideas how I could get access to my data?
I have to say, that I'm absolutely not satisfied with the Readynas, because it was really slow, not that easy to set-up and really buggy.
At the moment I just want to get my data asap from the Readynas and burn this thing after that down.
Hope you have some ideas for me?
Thanks in adance
Mark
Hi,
well thanks for your answers.
Finally I found a solution.
I dind't pay the 75€, because I think this won't guarantee me to get the data back. I also didn't buy any expensive programs you find with google when you search for "btrfs recovery tool".
After reading and understanding how btrfs works (this filesystem is used by Readynas in X-Raid mode) I tryied out the "btrfs restore /dev/md126 /media/USB_HDD_1" command. You just need to attach a USB harddrive to your Readynas and with the command all data (with proper folder structure) are copied to your USB harddisk (don't need to format the harddisk to btrfs or so on - just used ntfs).
That's all.
So to everyone having trouble with a corrupt filesystem - try this out. It worked for me fine. No files are damaged.
I'm not sure what's the reason for my filesystem corruption but I expect that during the clean-up btrfs function the Readynas OS killed it somehow.
Right now I try to sell the Readynas and I will never come back to Netgear (storage) products.
Cheers

Hello MarkF_93,
I'm sorry to hear this this.
Please contact support center. This is a possible data recovery service contract too.

Hi,
I already tried it. Because my Readynas is out of "Software Warranty" they want me to pay. But I'm not sure if they will really fix it. If not I lost 75€ and a lot of time.
Can anybody help with this?
Thanks

If you don't have a backup, then I think your best strategy is to pay the 75€

Actually, in your configuration, you have two RAID arrays, md127 and md126. That's why you can run the btrfs restore from md126, because btrfs is smart enough. But for ther users who want to do this, they'll probably need to run the restore from md127.
Also, if your HDDs were marked as inactive, maybe they were just not mounted, so there might have been an easier solution.
Anyway, glad you were able to copy the data out.
If I remember correctly, btrfs restore also copies the snapshots, so if your destination HDD is NTFS, that might cause an issue with used space.
By "clean-up", do you mean scrub or balance? I don't think there is a "clean-up" option. I wouldn't run either on a degraded array. It's stressful, and it's exactly the time when you can't afford a second device failure.- Markf_93Aspirant
Hey,
I tried to mount it.. many times with many options.
By "clean-up" i mean a scrub. I just missed the work.
Right now I learned my lessons.
