ReadyNas 1100 5MB/s transfer speed

Question

Hi!&nbsp;I've recentley inherited a readynas 1100.&nbsp;I reset everything to factory defaults and installed 2 x 2TB WD Green drives. The disks are in RAID 1.I went through the wizard and pretty much left everything on default and enablled large packets? (I have forgotten the option exactly)&nbsp;I seem to only get 5MB/s sometimes 6. And I cannot for the life of me figure out why.I have tested the drives they are both performaing well and achieved about 100 - 110 MB/S R/W on an Ubunutu system.&nbsp;I was wondering if there was anything that could be causing this. Please let me know if theres any more information that may help.&nbsp;Also I have ruled out the network as I can connect to a PC connected to the same Router and achieve close to 100MB/S transfer speeds.

That would be the MTU size? &nbsp;Try resetting back to 1500 and see if there is any change.

Also, what file sharing protocol are you using?

It looks like you are connected at 100 mb/s. &nbsp;Please check the network tab to make sure that you are connected at Gb/s&nbsp;I am assuming that you are on OS6 vs OS4&nbsp;Good Luck&nbsp;&nbsp;

Hi, Thanks for the response!&nbsp;I shall try changing the MTU - as for the firmware I'm not able to access it at the moment but I had it updated to latest one avalible. I can let you know which that is later today!&nbsp;thanks again,&nbsp;Matt.

I don't see what you are basing that conclusion on. &nbsp;Expected performance with 100 mbit ehternet would be about 10 MB/s, not 5-6.
&nbsp;
But the network link speed should be checked. &nbsp;If it is 100 mbit, the MTU should certainly be 1500.

No, the 1100 is an old sparc v1 product - it should be running 4.1.x firmware.
&nbsp;
BTW drive size is limited to 2 TB.

My understanding of an MTU is very poor - I understand that the MTu is the size of the packet? so a higehr MTu means a lower packet count made of bigger packets - I could be way off.&nbsp;Would you mind explaining why a larger MTU means faster speeds? would the data still be trasnmitted at the same speed even though the per packet size was larger.&nbsp;&nbsp;Matt.
