ReadyNAS 204 - Adding 2 new disks

Hi All,

I have a RN204 (OS v6.4.2) currently with 2x 3TB WD Reds in it. All is good, and I have a 2.72TB RAID 1 volume - looks like X-RAID too.

I have now purchased another 2x 3TB WD Reds. My questions are as follows:

1. Should add them to the existing volume 1 at a time? Adding the 2nd after the unit has completed the re-sync or whatever after the addition of the 1st disk.

2. Should I turn the unit off before adding the new disks?

I have no data on the NAS yet.

Please advise what my best path is...

Kind regards,

Ian

  • Add the disks one at a time with the unit running.

Wait until the resync completes for the first disk before you add the second.

      Thank you.

Exactly the sort of answer I was hoping for - concise and explicit.

First disk added and the re-sync is complete, second one added and the re-sync is in progress.

      Kind regards,

      Ian
