readynas 316 failed password reset
Hi All, I seem to have forgotten my admin password (which is weird as i'm sure I know what it is it simply isnt working). Problem is if I use the password reset function I get a "recover pass...
I assume you are past warranty, as an RMA to fix the front panel is the obvious best choice.
USB recovery restores the flash memory, your problem is on the OS partition of the drives. Just in case you actually did do an OS re-install and don't realize it, did you try the default password of "password"?
Can you still access the data with a non-admin log-in? If you can, the brute force method would be to copy off the data, delete all partitions on all the drives with a PC, then install them again. The system will automatically do a factory default and you can restore the data.
If you know somebody with an OS6 ReadyNAS with enough drive bays, you could install the drives into it and do an OS re-install.
