Hello serajhaider,
Yes you can change the IP address of the NAS. In order for you to access the NAS, the computer you will use needs to be with the same IP subnet of what you set for the NAS. If you are going to have the NAS to go on the Internet for ReadyCloud, online apps, etc., it needs to have a gateway address which should be the IP address of the router of the network where the NAS will be connected. There is no need to restart the NAS after changing the IP address.
And yes, you can plug a USB disk to it directly as the it will show up automatically on the admin page and will show as another share when you access the NAS via SMB.

hi,,
thankyou all for the reply it helped. but from the time i have changed the ip address of my readynas transfer speed has decreased.
i have a cisco 3560 switch on which my new readynas is connected along with 2 more nas. I recently changed my ip address of my nas and connected it to the appropriate port. but i don't know why copy speed to the nas is very slow... over the nas on the same switch. it just goes in kb/s. Please if any one can give me some suggestion kindly do ...
