ReadyNas 6.2 (NAS locks up entirely)

EDIT BY MODERATOR: Please see the post at the end of the thread: http://www.readynas.com/forum/viewtopic.php?p=456217#p456217

I guess i am not the only one this is happening to!
everything worked fine for 6.1.9 (except for my root at 99% problem last month)
once I updated, I transferred aprox 2 gigs of information it locks up every time
all apps are working fine.

as a business owner i have come to the conclusion (with the amount of problems i have been having) ReadyNas is not meant for a reliable means of backing up seems majority of the fixes are "back everything up and factory reset!" I think that answer is as good as telling someone with computer problems to hit there computer a few times and see if it works.

now i have gone to support many times yes they are quite helpful but only within 90 days of purchase of the unit! then they insist that i pay for a extension of that support.... i have 3 IBM servers and when there hardware fails (one little problem with a driver one year later) they back up the reseller in making sure my system is back up and running within 48 hours (no they are not leased or have a protection plan)

If it wasent for the guys in the forums i would have beaten the system with a bat (please see Office space the movie)... sorry for the rant just truly frustrated with the system

sbogar I sent you a PM.

Wansurfer, have you tried the latest beta? Can you send in your logs (see the link in my sig) so I can verify if your problem is likely the same as the others here or not.
  • My NAS it's "only" Multimedia storage so i can live with one or two freeze for week, waiting for solution, but i realy afraid sell this unit to production enviroment. I have clients with RN102 and RN104 lucky not updated to 6.2.x still on 6.1.9 and the units working flawesly. So I still waiting for solution and consider selling another brand of NAS.
  • I have two identical ReadyNAS 104 boxes (though purchased at separate times ... clue?). Newer one purchased April 2014. Old is at 'head office', new at 'remote location'. Both were stable initially (6.1.7, 6.1.9). I upgraded both to 6.2.0 in the failed hope of better features/user interface, and ever since have had terrible instability issues on the 'remote' unit - but not the 'head office' unit. I upgraded to 6.2.2 in the hope of remedies, but no luck. Unit locks up within 24 hours, hard power unplug/replug required to recover. Nothing is going on with the remote unit (it's not being used in any way); the backup process I had has been abandoned, so all I do right now is hand-carry a USB drive between locations and then copy files from the USB to the remote NAS.

I have just upgraded to 6.2.3-T1721 in the hope of some stability.

I ordered a replacement earlier this week, thinking I may have a dud unit, but now seeing all the posts here on the forum I see this is a common problem. I'm tempted to return it unopened. IF support are willing to work with me on this (I'm an IT guy) I may consider keeping the new unit and even shipping the failing unit back to NetGear for analysis.

    From the file 'initrd.log':

[2015/03/26 14:25:26] Updated from ReadyNASOS 6.2.2 (ReadyNASOS) to 6.2.3-T1721 (ReadyNASOS).
  • Oh my - I just finished posting my previous post in this forum and I seem to be locked up already! 30 mins after upgrading to 6.2.3 T1721.

On my browser session, the clock is still ticking but that may be a local browser object. I can click between screens, but clicking on 'volumes' resulted in a spinning wheel where the drive layout should be. I can click on 'performance' and see drive temps/etc. I can click on 'overview' and see device info, but if I let the page sit there, I get the 'Connection Lost' 'The device is either busy or ...'. But I can 'cancel' that and still click around, a bit. I can click 'shares' and see my directories, when I click on a different folder, I see spinning progress wheel next to the folder, and a small progress line near the top, but the folder never displays content and I get the 'connection lost' message. So I would guess all the activity I'm seeing in the browser is due to browser-cached objects. I cannot ping the device ... yikes. That was not very successful. Next ... ?
