ReadyNas 6.2 (NAS locks up entirely)
EDIT BY MODERATOR: Please see the post at the end of the thread: http://www.readynas.com/forum/viewtopic.php?p=456217#p456217
I guess i am not the only one this is happening to!
everything worked fine for 6.1.9 (except for my root at 99% problem last month)
once I updated, I transferred aprox 2 gigs of information it locks up every time
all apps are working fine.
as a business owner i have come to the conclusion (with the amount of problems i have been having) ReadyNas is not meant for a reliable means of backing up seems majority of the fixes are "back everything up and factory reset!" I think that answer is as good as telling someone with computer problems to hit there computer a few times and see if it works.
now i have gone to support many times yes they are quite helpful but only within 90 days of purchase of the unit! then they insist that i pay for a extension of that support.... i have 3 IBM servers and when there hardware fails (one little problem with a driver one year later) they back up the reseller in making sure my system is back up and running within 48 hours (no they are not leased or have a protection plan)
If it wasent for the guys in the forums i would have beaten the system with a bat (please see Office space the movie)... sorry for the rant just truly frustrated with the system

- jzeeviAspirantD'oh - I spotted it. Ain't it amazing how the human brain "autocorrects"?
- mdgm-ntgrNETGEAR Employee RetiredAh, yes the extra . at the end of the address. I removed the email address from your post.
- jsdepreyAspirantI just got a 316 and put 4 brand new 4TB WD Reds in it, updated the firmware to 6.2.2, setup some shares and started coping data over.
I have installed NO addons at all, and tonight my NAS froze up completely while coping more files over to it, all the blue drive lights on the front side were solid blue, I could ping the IP of the NAS fine, but the webpage would not pull and I could not SSH to the NAS at all.
I rebooted it by holding the power button down for a bit, and it booted back up fine, the logs show nothing about the issue, and I had been coping files to the NAS all day with no issues at all.
Then after some reading on the forums I turned all snapshots off to see if that will help, and started the copies going again.
I was just thinking how happy I was a bought this NAS and had no issues, and now this. I would have never updated to 6.2.2 is I thought the NAS was going to freeze up.
Is it just best to go back to 6.1.X somehow? really do not have time to baby sit a sick NAS with firmware issues.
Any help would be great, I will try to call support soon I guess. - mdgm-ntgrNETGEAR Employee Retiredjsdeprey, please open a support case and provide them with your logs zip file.
- jsdepreyAspirantI have deleted all snapshots and turned snapshots off on all shares.
Has anyone else tried this? I looked through some of the logs and the lockup was around the time it was doing some snapshots I think.
I am copying files again I will see how long it goes I guess. - kplatteAspirantYeah were having exact same issue with NAS locking up every night during backups ever since upgraded to 6.2.x wish we stayed on 6.1.x
No suggestion have worked to resolve it yet :( - jsdepreyAspirantkplatte, so you turned off snapshots and you still have lock ups? I have yet to have mine lockup again since I turned off snapshots on all shares, but that could just be a coincidence I guess.
- mdgm-ntgrNETGEAR Employee Retiredkplatte can you send a fresh set of logs. Your issue was not due to the upgrade to 6.2. Very clearly from the most recent set of logs you sent in I can see that you have a huge amount of fragmentation. That would cause issues on any firmware.
- Retired_MemberMy downgrade to 6.2.0 worked for a few days. My ReadyNAS is still freezing! The power button doesn't respond and I have to hold it in to force a reboot.
Man, I wish I would have NEVER upgraded to 6.2.x. Never again buying Netgear products. I wasted $600 on this less than a year ago! - mdgm-ntgrNETGEAR Employee RetiredPowerMan572 have you sent in your logs?
