Readynas Duo - Back-Up Entire Drive

Hi,

I effectively want to create an image of my ReadyNas Duo in order to replace the drives.

My plan is back-up to a spare drive in my PC, but I'm unsure of the best way to go about this.

I assume I'll be using the built in Back-Up utility and setting the source as 'Volume c:', however do I need to complete Host, Path etc?

For the destination I'm assuming it'll be 'Remote: Windows/NAS (Timestamp)', but what other details do I need to enter if I'm backing up to the root drive of M: on my PC?

Finally, when I swap my discs and restore, is it effective the same details by in reverse?

Sorry if these are newbie questions, but I've never tried anything like this from my NAS before.

Thanks in advance.
John

  • I'm a newbie too, so take this comment with a grain of salt. :D

I did not find a restore option. After I backed up my entire NAS (volume C) to an attached USB drive, restoring basically involves manually copying the files back onto the NAS.

My initial backuo (811GB) took 23 hours. Be patient. :D

There is an option to backup the configuration of your NAS. I tried it, but could not find the file afterwards to restore it (my fault, Im a klutz). You may want to backup your configuration just in case.

    Good luck!
