ReadyNas Duo can't connect CIFS/TimeMachine after Lion
I use my ReadyNas for storing movies and for Time Machine. So my familiarity with all the nuances is not great. Everything was working fine how I set it up a few years ago until the Lion upgrade. I used to see in Shared section 3 references to the ReadyNas, once in all caps, once with AFP, and once with CIFS. I can't remember why both CIFS and AFP were set up.
Since upgrading my Time Machine backups are failing. I searched through posts and it seems others have issues too, but mine seem different. For CIFS it would not connect at all. When I clicked "Connect As" nothing happened. I then used the "Go To" prompt and it failed to connect as well. It appears from searching I probably don't need CIFS so I turned it off.
Next, AFP. This one was failing connection to. Then it connected after a "Go To" prompt was issued. Now it is connected and shares can be seen.
Then the all Caps one. This was initially connected but after turning off CIFS and HTTP it now is not connected. I try to connect using the "Connect as" button and it won't accept the username and password. I believe I have the default so I tried admin/infrant1, admin/netgear1, and admin/password. I also tried my personal ones but don't think I ever reset this.
Through Time Machine preferences I cannot connect to the share, but the AFP share is connected in Finder.
My questions:
1) for my setup (storing movies and backing up via Time Machine), which file protocols do I need turned on?
2) I have Radiator 4.3, what is the username and password that I need to log on to the shares?
any other thoughts on how to get my backups going would be much appreciated!
Thanks.

- mdgm-ntgrNETGEAR Employee Retired1) AFP and Time Machine. Should also leave HTTP on (but don't need to enable this on any of the shares).
2) You have RAIDar 4.3.x (client software that runs on your PC/Mac) which is not the same as RAIDiator (OS/firmware of the NAS). What do you see under the Info (far right) column in RAIDar? - sdavis81AspirantOne other thing, I also run Fusion and upgraded from Fusion 2.0 to 4.1 because it had to be 64 bit. I used to not back up the Fusion files because it filled the disc. Now with 4.1 it said that Time Machine backups are OK and the "Auto-protect" feature will keep it clean. I did also set this up and that is how I figured out my backups weren't working.
Not sure if this has anything to do with it.
Thanks - sdavis81Aspirant

Sorry, my error.
I see 4.1.6 - mdgm-ntgrNETGEAR Employee RetiredAs I suspected there's your problem. RAIDiator 4.1.6 (http://www.readynas.com/RAIDiator_4_1_6_Notes) was released back in July 2009. This was before Mac OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard was released.
For Mac OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard you should use 4.1.7 or later
For Mac OS X 10.7 Lion you need RAIDiator 4.1.8 or later
Open Frontview (click Setup in RAIDar) and go to System > Update > Remote. You should see the 4.1.8 firmware is available when you check for an update.
There are some performance issues with 4.1.8 so if you're not happy with the performance you can give 4.1.9 beta a try: http://www.readynas.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=17&t=59222 - sdavis81AspirantI appreciate your time mdgm.
In Frontview, when I click update, the wheel spins for about a minute and then nothing happens. I did set it to automatically check and download updates and it has not done so yet, perhaps I need a reboot. Looking on site for FAQ's, not seeing a download link for the update image.
I will reboot the ReadyNas and see if it sees the update. - mdgm-ntgrNETGEAR Employee RetiredDo try the reboot and then attempt the update again. Link to download the firmware image to install via a local update is found in the Release Notes: http://www.readynas.com/RAIDiator_4_1_8_Notes
- sdavis81AspirantReboot no change. I followed link to release notes and clicked the highlighted RAIDiator- 4.1.8 and got a huge page of text script. Is this the file? I tried saving it to downloads and using it for local update but after several minutes it failed.
- mdgm-ntgrNETGEAR Employee RetiredOn the Release Notes page you need to right click on the link and select to download linked file.
What web browser are you using?
Are you able to try a different web browser? - sdavis81AspirantI used Firefox instead of Safari, that got me the download file and used it to do the local update.
Went back into Frontview and confirmed, reset up CIFS and both CIFS and AFP are now visible in Finder. The all caps listing of my Readynas in Frontview remains unconnected.
I go into Time Machine and try to readd the disc, and can't figure out a username and password combo that works. I tried admin/password, admin/infrant1, and admin/netgear1, in addition to personal ones it might be.
Many thanks again for your help. Any ideas on the password thing? Once I get it, I promise to change it to one I will know! - mdgm-ntgrNETGEAR Employee RetiredThe username for TM is "ReadyNAS" and the password is the one you set when setting it up. See Easy Time Machine Setup with the ReadyNAS
