With just one disk installed try updating to 4.1.8. Then power down, put the other disk in as well and do a factory reset. The ARM (5.3.x) firmware is for a different platform and will not install on the Duo v1.
It's up to you whether or not you risk using these 2TB disks or not. If you backup your data regularly you may find it worth the risk.
