ReadyNas Duo Frontview backup error with Windows 7 Pro (64)
I am trying to create a backup job in order to back up files from my remote windows 7 64-bit computer. Using the "Test connection" in Frontview>Backup>Add a new backup job I get the following message: "Error connecting to //lafleur/test" (lafleur is the name of the computer). I have also tried providing the host address (//192.168.1.2/c) with a share setup on C:.
This address also does not work: Host 192.168.1.12 ; path C$.
I can't figure this one out. Can anyone help?

- ewokNETGEAR ExpertIs there a share called test being shared on lafleur? Is this share accessible using another PC?
- david_lafleurAspirantYes, there is a share called test. I also shared "C:" and tried to do a backup to that drive. I can see these shares on other computers.
Both options did not work. - ewokNETGEAR ExpertPlease post the backup log showing the error message.

Unable to access remote path //lafleur/test. - ewokNETGEAR ExpertTry switching the backup protocol to Windows/Archive Bit, re-run the backup, and see if it produces a more useful error message.

With Windows 7 (and Vista) security is a little tighter than with XP, just setting a folder to be shared does not necessarily allow access to the files and folders on the share. Security is applied in two stages: 1/ the permissions for the share (usually "everyone: read-only") then the security on the folders on the share (usually to allow the username for backup access to have at least read access, more if you need to set the archive bit). Moreover, it you are connected to a domain you need to specify both the domain and the user name for the access credentials (domain\user).
Access to the c$ share of the whole c: drive requires admin privileges, and even then you will not be able to access/backup all folders.
So, set up a user account for your backups, give it a password.
Make this account an admin account
Set your share permissions on ntest to "read" for everyone, "full control" for the account you created.
Make sure that the backup account can actually access the files and folders in the share (add the user to the security settings of the folder that you are sharing with full control, then use the "effective permissions" tab under "advanced" to see what the rights are).
Try the connection test and then a backup from the Duo using the user/pass that you created. - david_lafleurAspirantJob: 001

I tried all the changes you recommended. I still do not get a successful backup.

Unable to access remote path //lafleur/ntest. - ewokNETGEAR ExpertI would suggest giving support a call and seeing if they can reproduce the issue. We are in the process of acquiring a Win7 64-bit box, but support may already have them available.
- IanWeggAspirantI've been struggling to get Backup working on Windows7 (64bit) for the last couple of weeks and finally fixed it last night.
As Clumpco above says, setting up the shares is more complicated than in previous Windows (in order to make it simpler!!)
This Wiki article - http://www.networkedmediatank.com/wiki/index.php/Windows7 - details some further steps.
However, there is another problem. For it to work at all you have to remove the Windows component Windows Live ID Sign-In Assistant.
Stopping and disabling the service is not enough, you have to remove the entire programme. It requires a reboot, although I found that Backup worked even before I had.
If you have this component on your system the backup appears to complete successfully but the log will show this:
session setup failed: SUCCESS - 0
Files copied: 0
Goggle that error message with the strings Ubuntu and "Windows 7" for more info.
