OK, some figures. I have the same files on my ReadyNAS Duo and it's plugged into the same type of router as my parents have. My PC has a 1Gbps link (the only obvious difference) and Windows is reporting 18.7MB/s whereas my parents setup is getting 26.3KB/s. That's quite some difference...
