Progress update:
ReadyNas Duo
Two new disks were inserted in the device.
Factory reset was performed.
ALL ReadyNas services and the device itself work like a charm.
Here is the disk health status:
Disk 1 Seagate ST380013AS 74 GB , 37 C / 98 F , Write-cache ON OK
Disk 2 Seagate ST380013AS 74 GB , 36 C / 96 F , Write-cache ON OK
Conclusion - ReadyNas Duo platform is fully operation.
Operational disks
DiskInternals Linux Reader was installed on Windows XP (last SP) and Windows 7 (last SP).
Disk 1 is visible and readable under both OSs:
Four logical volumes are present "Volume 1-4" and accessible.
The content can be copied. Unfortunately some of the files are OK, other seem to be corrupted. I started copying some family images and some are just copied fine: I can open and see the image after copy. Other are copied and in the intend to open them I get an error: "Invalid Image".
SWAG: Some sectors of the disk have been corrupted or the files are fragmented and the Linux Reader is not capable to copy them correctly.
I plan to copy all disk content in the way it is copyable now. That would be my backup. Then I will try to mount the disk under some Linux distribution (What about latest Ubuntu?) and see what is its response there. If I'm lucky Linux will be able to read correctly fragmented files (really nice assumption :)). Lastly I will search for a tool which could fix corrupted sectors or order the fragments on the disk and try to run it.
If you identify gaps/traps in the plan please let me know. Ideas are very welcome.
