ReadyNAS Duo V1 - Help Needed - Remote\Cloud Access & Applications

Hi all,

I Am Hoping (praying) someone can help me. I recently purchased what I thought was a second hand ReadyNAS DUO V2 (upgradable to newer 6.5 firmware) unit off eBay. My assumptions we're based on the model number, I have since learnt about the minefield which is figuring out if a ReadyNAS Duo is a "true" V2.

The unit works for what I need it for EXCEPT I am unable to locate any applications for the unit nor can I get remote\cloud access to the unit.

My questions:

1) Now that v1 is end of life where can I download copies of the applications for this unit?

2) How can I setup remote\cloud Access to this unit?

3) Is there any custom firmware\applications available?

One limitation is that this NAS can't handle disks > 2 TB.

These aren't fast and have limited memory, so don't overdo the add-ons.

Also, the last firmware update was a few years back, and no security patches have been applied since them. Personally I don't recommend exposing this NAS to the internet.

ReadyCloud only is available for OS-6 NAS (not 4.1). Getting a router with OpenVPN is the safest way to get remote access.

  When I entered the serial into Netgear's Website it gives me:
  ReadyNASRND2000
  RND2000v2 (ReadyNAS Duo v2) – Diskless
  Model / Version: RND2000 v2
  
  On the information page it shows Radiator 5.3.13 which I tried to upgrade to (when this failed I went searching for information and found even though it's named a v2 it is infact a v1)

    Then it is a V2, and that's the last OS available for it. Neither a Duo V1 nor V2 is upgradable to OS6. Only Intel based legacy NAS (and then excluding a couple that have a 32-bit processor) can be upgraded. What you wanted was an Ultra2, UIltra2Plus, Pro2, or a unit that runs OS6 natively. If you do go lookiong for another, I recommend you avoid the 100 series. They are extremely limited memory wise and there are already OS functions that have had to be disabled on them.
    
    Your best option for either Duo model is a router that supports OpenVPN, as StephenB suggested. The remote access capability that they once offered has been taken down for a number of years.

  Note that the Duo v1 (runs 4.1.x) and Duo v2 (runs 5.3.x) are both EOL. Neither of those runs OS6.
