Readynas DUO v2 - Lost access to files
Just recently bought a readynas duo V2, mainly as a mediacenter solution for my mac.
I'm a IT Tech myself and have some experience with NAS from before.
but this NAS is bugging me with super annoying permission problems that I don't understand....
1. When I use transmission on torrents, only transmission can do "cleanup files and delete data".
When i map \\192.168.115.134 and try to move or delete files, I get an error that sais I'm not permitted to do so.
That means i have to COPY, files over to the right folders to rename - then use transmission to delete.... very stupid.
2. I've copied a lot of music from this computer to the NAS into the media/music folder. I thought then about to rename them, and put them in right folders, to make the filestructure good to PLEX mediacenter. I get another error message on MOST of the files that sais that I need to make user "NAS/Nobody" permitted to do this... that's some of the funny part. not all files is involved here - even that all files were dumped in one copy-paste operation on the NAS.
- I have a compatible Harddrive on the NAS.
- Have tried a factory default
- have tried SSH PUTTY CHOWN on the media folder before factory default
- in the interface "Everyone" is permitted to Write/read.
- I can't change ownership through windows 7->security->advanced->owner->local user.
What the heck is wrong with this box? I'm only gonna use it for the SIMPLEST thing ever which is filesharing to my home network...
any tips before I throw this thing out of the window, and return all 5 I ordered to our store to my distributor?
and no - I don't care about the security within my LAN - If theres any way to turn of ALL security features in the box I'll be more than happy.
I've NEVER experienced such behaviour with either Synology or even D-link.
Sorry for being angry - but I've wasted 20hours of my life now on this.

- tomeinarAspirant...and from your earlier response, this 4.1.8 functionality will also be available for the v2 version in the 5.3.5 firmware upgrade. Is this correct?
- evan2NETGEAR ExpertYes, we will add advanced permission setting for the v2 version in 5.3.5.
- Better to add
"Set ownership and permission for existing files and folders in this share to the above settings. This option is useful in cases where you are changing security levels and need to workaround file access problems." - tomeinarAspirantI thought that was what they were going to add....

- tomeinarAspirantSweet! That might restore my faith in this product :D Thanks for the update evan!!!
- willy134ukAspirantsounds great thanks evan :D
Just updated looks gd so far just need to play with the ftp as ive logged in but theres no folders there - systpro4AspirantI have a ReadyNAS NV+ V2 with Radiator 5.3.5 and have transferred all my data from my old ReadyNAS NV+ to this one.
My old ReadyNAS is already gone, and now I want to make a new directory on my new ReadyNAS from my Windows 7 laptop, but I get the following message:
"You need permission to perform this action"
I get the same message when I want to add a file to an existing folder.
When I try to delete a file I get the following message:
"Network access is denied. Be sure you have the correct network permissions to perform this operation.
I have default read-write access for all shares for all users, and did not mark my user as read-only.
I have checked the box for "Automatic Permissions", and all 4 "Folder Creation..." and "File Creation..." boxes show "Read/Write".
I have even pushed the "Reset Permissions" button on the bottom of the settings-page.
I have tried to log on as admin from my laptop, but it remembers my userid, and doesn't ask for it, so I can't change it.
I moved all my data from my old ReadyNAS to my new one via Backups Jobs (letting the old NV+ v2 backulp all my files to the NV+ v2).
I don't remember what setting I used for the option "Changer ownership of backupfiles", but maybe that that has something to do with it?
Anyway, how do I get read/write access to all my shares and all my files again?
