Readynas DUO v2 - Lost access to files
Just recently bought a readynas duo V2, mainly as a mediacenter solution for my mac.
I'm a IT Tech myself and have some experience with NAS from before.
but this NAS is bugging me with super annoying permission problems that I don't understand....
1. When I use transmission on torrents, only transmission can do "cleanup files and delete data".
When i map \\192.168.115.134 and try to move or delete files, I get an error that sais I'm not permitted to do so.
That means i have to COPY, files over to the right folders to rename - then use transmission to delete.... very stupid.
2. I've copied a lot of music from this computer to the NAS into the media/music folder. I thought then about to rename them, and put them in right folders, to make the filestructure good to PLEX mediacenter. I get another error message on MOST of the files that sais that I need to make user "NAS/Nobody" permitted to do this... that's some of the funny part. not all files is involved here - even that all files were dumped in one copy-paste operation on the NAS.
- I have a compatible Harddrive on the NAS.
- Have tried a factory default
- have tried SSH PUTTY CHOWN on the media folder before factory default
- in the interface "Everyone" is permitted to Write/read.
- I can't change ownership through windows 7->security->advanced->owner->local user.
What the heck is wrong with this box? I'm only gonna use it for the SIMPLEST thing ever which is filesharing to my home network...
any tips before I throw this thing out of the window, and return all 5 I ordered to our store to my distributor?
and no - I don't care about the security within my LAN - If theres any way to turn of ALL security features in the box I'll be more than happy.
I've NEVER experienced such behaviour with either Synology or even D-link.
Sorry for being angry - but I've wasted 20hours of my life now on this.

Try using the "Credential Manager" control panel applet - either create or edit the entry for the NAS and reboot.
Alternatively, open a command box and use "net use". - systpro4Aspirant

Already done that, but no effect.
What does work is when I create a new share from the ReadyNAS dashboard, then I can connect to it from my laptop and create folders.
Another strange thing:
I cannot log on as admin anymore when accessing a share.
I can log on to the dashboard as admin, so the password I use is correct.
And the first time it asks for my credentials it starts blank, but after that it automatically specifies my domain.
So the first time I can try to log on as admin, but after that I can only try to log on as DOMAINNAME\admin.
I don't think that could be a problem, because I can then still connect to the share with my normal userid (so that is logging on with DOMAINNAME\userid).
Note: I have not defined a userid admin, but I have used that userid before when connecting to my shares (on the NV+ v2).
And another thing which I think cannot be the problem:
Yesterday I connected my Apple TV (gen. 1) to my NAS, and to be able to do so I enabled NFS for some of the shares.
The problem I have occurs however on all the shares, so also on the ones that are not enabled for NFS. - jan_vannesteAspirantI already updated to the latest release but still the same problem. Also when trying to open office files the first time it states that the file is open and can only be opened in read only. The second time I open the file no problem. File security on the duo v2 and windows 7 64 bit are not the best friends :-)
Any further suggestions - GoggiPAspirantHi all,
Are people still having permission issues on 5.3.5 or is it now resolved? - benandmarijaAspirantI still have these problems! :( I cant move files within finder on mac...I can create folders though.
- Mark_MBCAspirantWe're having the same issues - or at least very similar issues. Everyone seems to be able to access their own shares that are created when the user is created. But for shares that we've tried to set up for access by several users, things become irritating.
Files can be moved and such from the dashboard.
A user can create a file or folder in any share or folder created from the dashboard, assuming the user has been given the permission to get to that location.
Any file or folder created by a user CANNOT BE MODIFIED by ANYONE else but the Admin from the dashboard, regardless of permissions settings for the user or the share.
This is a ReadyNAS Duo v2, with the latest firmware (just updated it last night, made no difference with this problem). All of our computers are Win 7 64 bit Home Premium. I think we have an XP computer around here... I will find it and see if I can rule out the OS as a source of the problems. - hacka1979AspirantHi, I am having exactly the same issue with my ReadyNAS Duo v2 running the latest firmware (5.3.7).
Did you guys ever get to the bottom of the problem, or find a workaround ?
Adam - GoggiPAspirantHi Guys,
OK the readyNAS NV+v2 uses samba. It may be worth disabling oplocks. Here is a good explaination of how oplocks works.
http://oreilly.com/openbook/samba/book/ch05_05.html
There is a reset permissions option which should do the same as a chmod 777 and give everyone access. If this does not work then this timestamp on the file maybe using an old instance of the permission values, which can get frustarting. In this is the case I would create a new share and transfer all the files to a public folder, then get the user to set the permissions as they would like them. Something else to note, once a user logs onto a share ensure no other computer is using the same credentials to login as this will reset the samba connection. If you are still have a permissions issue please log a ticket at this address,

Here is also a really good video that explains AD and permissions.
