MDGM helped me out and my problem was indeed "locked" drives. What I had done is a secure erase on the pair of WD RED 3TBs in RAID1. I interrupted that process and ended up with drives that were "locked".
My solution was to download an Ubuntu Live CD and boot to it with only one of the drives attached. I disconnected my system drive during this process. Once in Ubunto I issued the commands:
hdparm --user-master user --security-unlock NETGEAR /dev/sdb
hdparm --user-master user --security-disable NETGEAR /dev/sdb
Actually had to try this instead:
sudo hdparm --user-master user --security-unlock NETGEAR /dev/sdb
sudo hdparm --user-master user --security-disable NETGEAR /dev/sdb
Then I disoconnected the drive and did the other one. Put back into the NAS, did a Factory Reset and everything is now working fine.
