ReadyNAS Duo V2 boot issues

Hi,

I have Duo V2 with 5.x firmwarewith 2x2tb WD drives

It has been working fine for past 5-6 years.

but last week it said 'corrupt root'

upon lookng up, i tried restore and os restore. both fails

so connected drives to pc, backed up data and wiped them.

re tried reset/re install. still stops with either bad disk or courrupt root.

And anyone provide some help with this ?

  • Start by testing the drives in a Windows PC with WD's Lifeguard software.  I recommend running both the non-destructive extended test, and the full destructive "write zeros" test.

If both drives pass these tests, then put them back in the NAS and power it up.  The NAS should then do a factory install (no need to use the boot menu, since the disks are blank).

  • I have deleted the partitions on both of them, is the test necessary ?

Disk test takes like forever to complete. With my currect weather state im not sure i can keep running for more that 4-5 hrs.

I also did try normal boot the first time i booted the deleted drives.

I think so, yes.  I suspect at least one of the disks has failed.

Good news. Its up and running now.

        What i did.

        - ran extended tests on both disks,

        - scan reported some sector errors, which i repaired.

        - poped in the disk, booted in setup mode.

        - ran volume check on nas, no errors.

Thank you StephanB, you sir are a rockstar.
