ReadyNas Duo V2 setup nightmare
Hi , my first attempt to set up a Netgear NAS box and quite possibly my last , Trying to set up a new duo V2 with one Samsung F1 750Gb hard drive. This works fine in a Synology and D-link Nas box ...

It could be a bad disk or an incompatible one. Testing the drive using the disk manufacturer's tools would be the way to find out if the drive is dead.
Competing NAS offerings also have compatibility lists. Some drives don't work well in RAID arrays. Particularly some WD Green disks which have "green" features. Things like disks putting themselves to sleep and then as a result being considered dead aren't good.
Are you sure you have the v2?: How to tell whether I have a Duo v1 or Duo v2 or NV+ v1 or NV+ v2
Factory default may take a while but you can monitor the progress in RAIDar (http://www.readynas.com/downloads)
